Franco Cachia attends UEFA course for international futsal referees

The specialist role of officiating at major futsal events comes under the spotlight at the 4th UEFA Course for International Futsal Referees at the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) technical centre in Coverciano, Florence, when leading futsal match officials will come together for the course from Monday to Wednesday this week, which will also feature the FIFA fitness test – comprising a 1km run, as well as speed and agility trials.
It will also address topics such as reading the game, positioning and movement, and dealing with red and yellow cards. Europe’s prominent futsal referees are preparing for duty at the 2010 UEFA European Futsal Championship, which will be played from 19 to 30 January next year in Hungary at Budapest’s Papp László Sportaréna and Debrecen’s Fonix Arena.
Two guest referees and one instructor from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will also attend the course in Italy. Maltese FIFA Futsal Referee Franco Cachia will be representing Malta.
