Qormi extend positive run

Dingli Swallows vs Qormi FC 1-4 (HT 0-1)

Qormi maintained their positive run on top the BOV Premier League table as they defeated wooden-spoonists Dingli Swallows 3-1. The Yellow-Blacks move five points clear ahead of second-placed Valletta.

Carbonaro and Zerafa confirmed the same eleven players who had started the last game against Hamrun while Dingli had four changes from the team which lost to Dingli.

The Swallows had the first attempt at goal with Jeremy Agius trying his luck with a header off a cross by Kurt Formosa from the right on seven minutes. Jonathan Bondin failed to connect off a cross by Alfred Effiong four minutes later.

On 22 minutes, Ryan Deguara released Alfred Effiong on the left and after advancing into the area, he hit the foot of the post.

Qormi managed to take the lead on 28 minutes when off a corner from the right by Joseph Farrugia, Massimo Grima placed the ball at the back of the net.

Six minutes in the second, Camilo Da Silva Sanvezzo doubled the score for Qormi as he slammed the ball home from close range following a perfect pass by Ryan Deguara from the right.

Renato Garcia Conceicao stopped Camilo Da Silva from adding another goal on 61 minutes as he blocked his conclusion on the goal line following a freekick by Farrugia from the right. Four minutes later, a Clint Caruana shot from outside the area for Dingli ended high.

Dingli reduced the gap on 70 minutes when Haruna Doda was brought down inside the area. Coach Jesmond Zammit introduced substitute Joseph Okonkwo who took the penalty and the Nigerian striker made no mistake as he beat Matthew Farrugia.

But on 76 minutes, Camilo Da Silva Sanvezzo released Alfred Effiong who advanced all alone inside the area before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia to make it 3-1.

One minute from time, Camilo Da Silva Sanvezzo added another goal, beating Jeffrey Farrugia from close range following a cross by Massimo Grima.
