The Spiro Mizzi Foundation presented the Senglea nursery with an educational sponsorship from which Senglea youths and youngsters will benefit.

The foundation was established in August 2007 by Mr. Maurice Mizzi to commemorate his father, Spiro Mizzi. Its objective is to help families and children in need, in the Three Cities: Senglea, Vittoriosa and Cospicua. Mr. Maurice Mizzi is the chairman of the ‘Spiro Mizzi Foundation’ board, while Dr. John C. Grech and Fr. Hilary Tagliaferro are members of this board. For the first time, this foundation is offering help from its capital funds interest.

After various discussions between the two parties, the Spiro Mizzi Foundation agreed to sponsor the nursery with a laptop, a printer and an internet connection. The foundation will also sponsor computer courses for Senglea youths and youngsters which will be held for free at the premises of the Senglea Nursery.

Senglea nursery president Mr. Stephen Spiteri thanked the Spiro Mizzi Foundation for this initiative and said that the nursery does not only focus on football, but also offers a variety of sports and educational activities. He said he was sure that this initiative will be a success.

Spiteri explained that computer lessons, will be graded, starting from the very basic skills ones to the more detailed ones. Apart from these lessons, this initiative will help those youths and youngsters, who even though are computer literate, but who do not afford a computer or an internet connection at home. Thanks to this initiative, these youths can avail themselves of this facility and therefore complete better work for school tasks and projects.

Fr. Hilary urged all to take advantage of this opportunity while Dr. Grech spoke about the importance of technology nowadays and hence the importance of knowing how to make use of this technology. On the other hand, Mr. Mizzi explained that the aim of this foundation was to help persons in the three cities to reach their educational goals. Such help could improve the level of education in the area as financial problems usually hinder success in education.

Mr. Maurice Mizzi, then presented the cheque to Senglea nursery president Mr. Stephen Spiteri. Attending the presentation were officials from the nursery together with a large number of players and parents.
