Tricky test for leaders Qormi

Leaders Qormi will be aiming at obtaining a fourth successive win on Friday as they face Hibernians at the Hibs Stadium, kick-off at 19:30. They lead the table with 28 points, two ahead of Birkirkara and four ahead of Valletta.

The season was so far a great one for the team led by Jesmond Zerafa and Vince Carbonaro. They won nine of the twelve matches they played, losing only to Valletta and Birkirkara. The only other points they dropped were in a draw with Floriana.

Despite lacking top scorer Camilo Da Silva Sanvezzo, Qormi still managed to collect six points in a 2-1 win over Sliema Wanderers and a 3-0 win over Msida St. Joseph. Camilo, who is attracting the interest of a club from South Korea, is expected to be back in squad for Friday’s game.

Qormi will also have in squad two new faces – midfielders Stefan Giglio and Matthew Bartolo who joined the club on loan from Valletta and Sliema Wanderers respectively.

Hibernians are currently fourth, five points behind Qormi. After collecting just four points from the previous four matches, the Paolites bounced back with two wins over bottom teams Msida and Dingli. They now target a win over Qormi in order to join Birkirkara in second place, although the latter would have a game in hand.

In the first round, Qormi registered a 3-1 win thanks to a Camilo hat-trick but in the National League 100 Anniversary Cup, Hibs defeated Qormi on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
