Birkirkara target top spot

Birkirkara will be all out for the three points as they take on wooden-spoonists Dingli Swallows in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday. A win which would put the Stripes on level points with leaders Qormi.

In fact following Qormi’s 2-2 draw with Hibernians, Birkirkara lie just three points behind them.

The team led by Paul Zammit is currently the most consistent side and won five of their last six matches. They are coming from a 2-0 win over Hamrun Spartans.

Dingli, on the other hand, suffered eight consecutive defeats and against Birkirkara, they will be doing all their best to limit the damages.

Shaun Bajada is ruled out for Birkirkara as he serves a one-match ban.

In the first round, Birkirkara registered a 3-1 win.

Meanwhile in the second game, Valletta will be hoping to return to winning ways as they face Msida St. Joseph.

In the first round, Msida were the first team to steal any points from the Citizens, holding them in a goalless draw. Valletta will therefore seek revenge as they aim for the three points which would put them two points behind the leaders. In their last outing, they lost 1-3 to Sliema Wanderers.

Under the guidance of new coach Keith Gouder, who replaced Mark Marlow after the latter handed his resignation earlier this week, Msida St. Joseph will hope to give the Citizens a hard time once again. The Saints suffered two 0-3 defeats to Hibs and Qormi in the last two matches.

Valletta captain Gilbert Agius is ruled out through suspension.
