Qormi FC to organise Fiorentina Campus

Qormi Football Club will be organising for the first time in Malta a training camp for children aged 7 to 15 – Fiorentina Campus – in collaboration with Italian Serie A side Fiorentina between Monday 5th and Thursday 8th April. Details were revealed by Qormi FC during a press conference which was held at the Qormi Local Council.

Addressing those present, Qormi FC president said that the club was given the right to hold this training camp following a meeting with Fiorentina Chief Executive Officer Sandro Mencucci and Fiorentina Camp technical director Alberto Bollini while both were on a short visit to Malta. Bollini, who coached the club’s Primavera side for the past two years, is now in charge of these Fiorentina Camps and Viola Camps which are held all over Italy.

Mencucci and Bollini agreed to start this collaboration with Qormi FC during a meeting which was co-ordinated by Kenneth Vella and Qormi FC marketing director Anthony Thorne. Also present was Alfio San Filippo who is a scout for Fiorentina in southern Italy.

The Qormi president announced that the Fiorentina Campus will be held on a national basis at the new training grounds in De La Salle College since the Qormi FC football ground will be unavailable due to works currently underway. The Fiorentina Campus will be led by Alberto Bollini and other Italian coaches, assisted by Qormi coaches.

Those attending this four-day Fiorentina Campus will be receiving a full kit of Fiorentina together with a Fiorentina t-shirt and a certificate of participation which includes technical assessment by the Italian coaches.

Alberto Bollini will be addressing a seminar which will be open for all coaches on Thursday April 8th.

Qormi president Matthew Fenech concluded by thanking the Qormi mayor and the Qormi Local Council and main sponsors Tropicana Juices for their support in order to make this initiative possible.

Qormi mayor Jesmond Aquilina said the Local Council always tried to support such initiatives from which children could benefit. He said that by supporting the Qormi football, basketball and hockey nurseries, the Local Council was encouraging a more active participation in sports by children. Other initiatives taken by the Local Council were the organisation of three fun-runs during the year, a 10K marathon and the organisation of the after-school sports programme in two schools.

The Qormi Local Council will be subsidising the fees of children attending this Fiorentina Campus, especially in the case of children coming from families with financial difficulties.

The Qormi mayor concluded by wishing this club success in this initiative and praised the club for its historic achievement in the Premier League.

On behalf of Quintano Foods, Cynthia Caruana said the company was glad to associate itself with this initiative through Tropicana Juices and wished the club success in future initiatives.

The Fiorentina Campus is open for children born 1995 to 2003.
