Forty-eight teams to take part in 15th edition of Mediterranean Cup

The draws for the 15th Edition of the Mediterranean Cup have been held and the ball has been set for the most sought after and awaited youth football event in Malta.

This annual event organised by the San Gwann FC Youth Nursery has again attracted the maximum 48 teams required to complete the six age categories in the competition. This year no fewer than 800 boys from 20 local youth nurseries and one team from the Czech Republic will participate in this year’ s Easter Tournament, as it is most affectionately known with the locals.

The teams taking part this year will be San Gwann as hosts, Sirens, Floriana, Hamrun Spartans, Mosta, St. Patrick, Zebbug Rangers, Pieta’ Hotspurs, Rabat Depiro, Qormi, Birkirkara, Pembroke Athleta, Luxol St. Andrew’s, Hibernians, Birzebbuga Windmills, Melita Amateurs, Valletta, Attard and Kirkop United, as well as Moravska Brno from the Czech Republic who will play in the Under 13 section. The tournament will kick-off on the 27th of March and is open for boys between the age of 8 years and 13 years. As in previous years we expect ten continuous days of fun and exciting football.

The San Gwann FC Youth Nursery has worked extremely hard this year to host the tournament after it became apparent that the San Gwann Local Council, who have supported the event since the creation of the Council, opted not to sponsor this event.

Despite this setback the organisers decided to hold the event in it’s original format for the good and love of the sport.
