Construction of National Grassroots Centre expected to start in July

The Malta Football Association announced that the construction of a National Grassroots Centre at the MFA Training Grounds, Ta’ Qali is expected to start in July 2010 following the issue by MEPA of the necessary permit.

The project will consist of a FIFA Two-Star artificial turf pitch and a partly covered stand for 1,200 spectators together with an indoor pitch for futsal, dressing rooms, conference hall and lecture rooms for the youth national teams and women’s national teams underneath the terraces.

Some changes were made to the original plans and the artificial turf pitch will not be installed on one of the two main pitches of the MFA Training Grounds but behind the goals of these two pitches, that is in the central part of the training grounds.

The National Grassroots Training Centre is expected to cost around €1.2 million which will be financed through €500,000 as part of the UEFA Hat-Trick Assistance Programme 2, another €500,000 from a Bank of Valletta loan and USD400,000 as part of the FIFA Goal 2007-2011 programme.
