The VIVA World Cup 2010 is being held in Gozo between the 31st May and 6th June 2010 with Padania, Iraqi Kurdistan, Provence, Occitania, Regno delle Due Sicilie and the host Country Gozo vying for the Men’s Cup. Gozo and Padania will contest the Female Cup.

Bank of Valletta is supporting the VIVA World Cup 2010, an international football tournament organized by the New-Federation Board, an umbrella association for nations unaffiliated with FIFA.

The VIVA World Cup 2010 was officially launched during a press conference held at Bank of Valletta’s Head Office in Santa Venera. Alvin Grech, President of the Gozo Football Association, Dr Joseph Grech, Chairman of Gozo 2010 VIVA World Cup and Igino Xuereb, Chief Officer at Bank of Valletta addressed the Press Conference.

“We are delighted to hold the 2010 edition of the VIVA World Cup,” said Mr. Grech. “Gozo was competing with Padania and Kurdistan to hold this prestigious tournament. Dr Joseph Grech thanked BOV for their support and said that it is also thanks to BOV and GFA that two main philanthropic organizations – ARKA and OASI Foundations will benefit for all the money generated for the gates during this event.

Mr. Alvin Grech added “We take this opportunity to thank the organizing committee who handled the enormous task to handle an international event of this level which will kick off on the 31st May following a spectacular opening ceremony.”

“Bank of Valletta is a strong supporter of sporting initiatives which include the major football competitions in Malta as well as the Gozo Super Cup,” said Mr. Xuereb. “We are delighted to participate in this prestigious tournament and take this opportunity to wish all the best of luck to all the participating teams.”

The VIVA World Cup was first held in Occitania in 2006 and won by Sapmi. Padania won the second and third editions which were held in Samiland and in Padania in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Gozo first took part last year, placing fifth.
