Stephen Azzopardi appointed new Qormi FC coach

Qormi FC appointed Stephen Azzopardi as their new coach. He will be signing a two-year deal with an option for a third.

The decision was taken on Monday during a meeting of the Qormi FC committee which discussed who the new coach will be between outgoing coach Vince Carbonaro and Stephen Azzopardi. A vote was taken with the majority opting for the latter.

Besides the senior team, Stephen Azzopardi will also supervise the club’s youth sector.

Azzopardi started coaching a club level with Balzan Youths but then joined Birkirkara FC in December 2001. With the Stripes, Azzopardi won one Premier League championship, three FA Trophies and five Super Cups, among other major honours. In March 2007, he resigned and was appointed as Sliema Wanderers coach in November 2007. He led the Blues to winning the U*BET FA Trophy in May 2009 and the BOV Super Cup in August 2009.

Carbonaro had joined the Qormi technical set-up last summer. Although he held the post of Qormi coach, it was only after the departure of team-manager Jesmond Zerafa, that the team was under his complete responsibility when they managed to reach the final of the U*BET FA Trophy.
