Hamrun Spartans Youth Nursery Summer School 2010

For the third consecutive year, the Hamrun Spartans Youth Nursery Summer School is once again being organised by coaches Marco Grech (Uefa B licence) and Stefan Sultana (Uefa A licence), assisted by another Nursery qualified coach James Cutajar.

The school started on Monday 14th June and will continue until Friday 23rd July at the Nursery 5-a-side pitch and Victor Tedesco Stadium. The focus of training sessions is to improve the children’s individual skills. Each week, the sessions for each age group will have a different theme, varying from guiding the ball, dribbling, passing, ball control, shooting and heading. Individual attention is being given to all children with the aim of improving the individual skills which will ultimately result in added benefit for the whole team.

Boys and girls from the 1997 to 2006 categories will have two training sessions every week for six weeks from 5:30 till 7:00pm. Free Gatorade once a week plus free kit and free tokens from Eurosport are given out to each participant.

The appropriate exercises vary for each age group and are to be targeted according to the children’s ability and stages of development. The age groups are divided as follows:

Group 1 Children born in 2005 and 2006 (Mondays between 5.30pm and 7.00pm)
Group 2 Children born in 2003 and 2004 (Mondays between 5.30pm and 7.00pm)
Group 3 Children born in 2001 and 2002 (Tuesdays between 5.30pm and 7.00pm)
Group 4 Children born in 1999 and 2000 (Wednesdays between 5.30pm and 7.00pm)
Group 5 Children born in 1997 and 1998 (Wednesdays between 5.30pm and 7.00pm)

Friday is dedicated to games, where all the children are left as free as possible to express their talents with little instructions from the coaches. The nursery coaches feel that this is an important step towards the development of the children’s personality in the game of football. Guidance from coaching is important, but freedom to express themselves will also contribute immensely in the kids’ overall improvement.

Once again, the response was a success as more than 100 boys are participating. Each participant will be awarded with a certificate of attendance upon completion of the Football Summer School. More details on the Hamrun Nursery may be obtained on the nursery website www.hamrunnnursery.com.
