National squad leaves Malta for training camp in Italy

A group of 21 Malta players under the charge of coach John Buttigieg and assistant coach Carmel Busuttil will be travelling to Italy on Sunday to commence a week-long schedule of training which heralds the new season for the national team. This physical and technical build-up is necessary for the squad in view of their upcoming international matches.

The first competitive commitments are those in the Euro 2012 Group F qualifying matches during the first week of September when our team is due to meet Israel away on the 3rd September and Latvia at Ta’ Qali National Stadium four days later.

The players travelling to Italy are:
goalkeepers Anthony Curmi, Andrew Hogg, Mario Muscat;
defenders Ryan Camilleri, Shawn Bajada, Roderick Briffa, Jonathan Caruana, Edward Herrera, Carlo Mamo;
midfielders John Mintoff, Gareth Sciberras, Joseph Zerafa, Clayton Failla, Paul Fenech, Ryan Fenech, Massimo Grima, Jamie Pace, Kevin Sammut;
forwards Christian Caruana, Andrew Cohen, Michael Mifsud
