Gzira United’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Naxxar Lions meant that Tarxien’s clash with Pietà was a forlorn affair as both teams had already booked their place in Monday’s semi-finals. Gzira had to beat Naxxar and then wait for the outcome of the Tarxien v Pietà match. But the 1-0 defeat condemned them to bottom place in Section ‘B’. Darren Falzon scored the all important goal in the 56th minute that rewarded Naxxar with their first and only points in the tournament.

In the second match, Tarxien were always on the attack against a young Pietà side. But they could not penetrate the Pietà defence. When they did, in the 80th minute, it was a special goal by their new Ricardo Costa who beat Miguel Montfort in the Pietà goal with a brilliant volley from just outside the box.
