Maltese players abroad: Schembri, Barbara on target

Andre Schembri scored his first goal for Ferencváros as Fradi defeated Györi ETO 3-0 on Wednesday in a match from the Hungarian first division.

Ferencváros lead the way with 10 points from five matches along with Debrecen, Kaposari Rakoczi, Vasas and MTK.

On Thursday, Etienne Barbara scored one of the goals in Carolina RailHawks’ 2-1 win over Tampa Bay Rowdies away from home. This was Barbara’s seventh goal for RailHawks since moving to the USA last March.

The team is currently second in the USSF Division 2 – NASL Conference with 34 points from 25 matches.

In Cyprus, Luke Dimech made his debut for AEK Larnaca in the game against Omonia Nicosia in the First Division on Monday. He was substituted by former Valletta striker Njongo Priso.

In Italy, after signing a two-year deal with AS Melfi, Andrei Agius, who had joined the club on loan last January from Cassino, played his first league game as Melfi defeated Fondi 2-1.

In England, Daniel Bogdanovic was not included in last Saturday’s game for Sheffield United – a 1-0 win over Preston North End. The Blades have collected just four points from the first four matches.

In Australia, Manny Muscat and John Hutchinson are playing regularly for Wellington Phoenix and Central Coast Mariners. Central Coast Mariners collected five points from four matches and Wellington Phoenix four points from three.
