Malta Under-17 side win Mosta U-19 Challenge

The Malta Under-17 side came from behind to beat Mgarr United and in the process secure their third win in as many games and make sure that they win the Mosta Fc Under-19 Challenge.

Although they still have to play second-placed Naxxar Lions next Wednesday, they have already made sure of the top spot.

Mgarr United took the lead through Eman Grech, but two minutes before half-time, Luke Baldacchino equalised for Malta. The match was evenly balanced in the second half, but substitute Glenn Chircop scored Malta’s winner with two minutes left.

Earlier Mosta and Naxxar served up a derby thriller with the Lions emerging the winners 5-3 after falling behind early in the match.

Luke Fenech put Mosta ahead, but Naxxar responded with two goals in six minutes through Andrea Del Negro and Andrea Farrugia. Darren Falzon made it 3-1 for Naxxar before a beauty by Wayne Sciberras put the Blues back in the match. Subsitute Kyle Agius restored Naxxar’s two-goal cushion before Wayne Sciberras scored his second to make the score 4-3.

The game’s outstanding performer Darren Falzon scored his second and the Lions fifth to give his team their first victory of the tournament with a final 5-3 scoreline.

On Wednesday, Naxxar meet the Malta Under-17 team at 18.30 hrs while a date is yet to be set for the St. Andrew’s vs Mgarr match.
