Citizens target sole leadership

Valletta will be hoping to move top of the BOV Premier League table as they take on Qormi in one of the two matches in programme on Saturday.

The Citizens collected four points from the first two outings, defeating Vittoriosa Stars 3-0 and sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw with Hibernians. With another three points on Saturday, they would move one point ahead of current leaders Hamrun Spartans and Birkirkara. The Spartans, however, have a game in hand.

Qormi are currently on three-point mark following a 1-3 defeat to Hamrun and a 4-2 win over Vittoriosa. They will be aiming at making life difficult for the Citizens.

Valletta captain Gilbert Agius is ruled out injured.

Meanwhile Tarxien Rainbows and Vittoriosa Stars will both aim at obtaining their first win as they cross swords in the first match.

The Rainbows earned a point in a draw with Marsaxlokk in their first outing but then lost 1-3 to Hamrun Spartans. Newly-promoted Vittoriosa, on the other hand, suffered two defeats losing 0-3 to Valletta and 2-4 to Qormi.

The Stars welcome back Brazilian midfielder Carlos Emanuel Campagnoli who missed the last game through suspension. Tarxien midfielder Sergio Pacheco de Oliveira should also be back after skipping the last game due to an injury.
