U*BET FA Trophy: Hotspurs hit six past Msida

Pietà Hotspurs made it to the first round of the U*BET FA Trophy after defeating fellow First Division side Msida St. Joseph 6-0 in a match from the Preliminary Round on Wednesday.

In the first round, Pietà will take on Hibernians at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

The Hotspurs managed to take the lead when Sheldon Grech sent Robson Luiz Bandeira on the right and beat the Msida goalkeeper with a diagonal shot.

Pietà doubled the score on 13 minutes when Jeremy Alden rushed out of the area to clear the ball into safety but failed to do so and Bandeira placed the ball inside the empty net.

Zach Muscat made it 3-0 on 16 minutes, hitting low from inside the area when served from the right.

Sheldon Grech scored a fourth goal with a direct freekick with the ball hitting the crossbar before ending at the back of the net.

Twelve minutes in the second half, Zach Muscat made it 5-0 off a Sheldon Grech freekick.

Msida went close to scoring a consolation goal on 73 minutes when a Ryan Xuereb effort hit the upright and off the rebound, Phiram Sakchai had a shot cleared off the goal line by a defender.

Robson Luiz Bandeira scored the sixth goal on 79 minutes, heading the ball home from close range following a Sheldon Grech corner from the right.

Finally a cross shot from the right by Rodney Caruana hit the upright for Msida six minutes from time.
