Spartans face tricky Vittoriosa test

Hamrun Spartans will be aiming to return to winning ways on Friday as they host Vittoriosa Stars at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 19:30.

The Spartans are coming from a 1-2 defeat to Marsaxlokk in their last league outing three weeks ago. A defeat which cost them the chance to go alone in second place in the BOV Premier League table. After defeating Melita 5-0 in the U*BET FA Trophy first round, Hamrun are eager for the three points which would put them in joint-second place with another three teams – Marsaxlokk, Tarxien Rainbows and Floriana, when all would have played eight matches.

However the Spartans’ task is no easy one considering that Vittoriosa are going through a positive spell, having claimed six points from the last four matches – a win over Hibernians and three draws with Floriana, Birkirkara and Marsaxlokk. Another positive result would enable them to hand the wooden spoon to Hibernians.

Edison Luis Dos Santos ‘Tarabai’ is ruled out for the Stars as he serves a two-match ban.
