Hamrun face Qormi test

Hamrun Spartans will be aiming to move third as they take on Qormi in one of the two matches in programme at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Spartans share the fourth place with Birkirkara and Marsaxlokk after claiming just four points from the last four matches in a draw with Birkirkara and a win over Vittoriosa. On Wednesday, they lost 0-2 to leaders Valletta.

Qormi, on the other hand, returned to winning ways on Sunday as they defeated Marsaxlokk 1-0 and are currently seventh, two points behind the Spartans.

Martin Hrubsa and Roderick Fenech are both ruled out through suspension while Rupert Mangion and Dene Shields are still recovering from injuries. For Qormi, Kosta Bjedov is ruled out injured while Abubakar Bello-Osagie may not recover in time for the game.

In the first round, Hamrun won 3-1.

Meanwhile in the second match, Birkirkara will be aiming at returning to winning ways after collecting just seven points in the last six matches. Performances were far from impressive but a win against Sliema could put the Stripes back on track in the challenge for the title.

The Wanderers are currently third from bottom with nine points from nine matches and are coming from a series of five matches without a win. Five matches in which they collected just three points in three draws.

Obinna Obiefule should be back for Sliema while for Birkirkara, Rowen Muscat is ruled out injured.

Birkirkara registered a 4-1 win in the first round.
