Rainbows aim at extending positive run

Tarxien Rainbows will be aiming at extending their positive run on Sunday as they take on Vittoriosa Stars in one of the two matches in programme at the Hibernians Stadium.

The Rainbows are currently second on 20 points, ten points behind leaders Valletta, and therefore they cannot afford any result except a win in order to keep the pace with the Citizens and cut the gap to seven. They won five of the last six matches, dropping the only points in a draw with Birkirkara.

Their task will be no easy one as Vittoriosa eye the three points as they aim at leapfrogging Hibernians and moving to just one point behind Sliema. In their last outing, they held Qormi in a 2-2 draw.

Kevin Mifsud serves the second of his two-match ban for Vittoriosa. Orosco Anonam will be back for Tarxien after serving a suspension.

In the first round, Tarxien registered a 1-0 win.

Meanwhile in the second match, Marsaxlokk take on Floriana in a clash between two teams who are aiming at securing a place in the Championship Pool as early as possible.

After a positive start, both sides failed to impress in recent outings. Marsaxlokk claimed just two points from the last four games in draws with Vittoriosa and Sliema, losing to Qormi and Tarxien. Floriana, on the other hand, shared the spoils in draws with Valletta and Hibernians but then lost to Birkirkara.

Clive Brincat is ruled out for Marsaxlokk as he serves a one-match ban. Floriana, on the other hand, could have a Portuguese player – Marçal Guerreiro Fernandes – making his debut.

Marsaxlokk registered a 1-0 win in the first round.
