Vassallo explained that in a bid to attract more fans to the stadiums, the match ticket price for Premier League matches was reduced from €8 to €6. He said the paying attendance by the end of the first phase increased by twenty per cent compared to last season.
The MFA CEO said the association wanted to invest in supporters. He mentioned the refurbishing at the National Stadiums and also the reform in the National Leagues thanks to which football will move closer to towns and villages. He said that a new stadium will be built in order to host top-level football while football from the lower divisions will be played in regional stadiums which could host between 800 and 2,000 spectators, namely the Luxol Stadium, Charles Abela Stadium in Mosta, the Rabat Ajax Ground in Mtarfa and eventually the Sirens Ground.
Vassallo explained that the association is also currently considering increasing the capacity at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and investing at the Hibernians Stadium. He also revealed that there are plans for a new ticketing system for next season where tickets could be available for sale beforehand and also, possible online.
He concluded by saying that the association will continue working hard to attract more fans to the stadiums, including bringing back those people who no longer go to watch domestic matches.
These incentives are part of the campaign “Mill-Qalb u b’ Determinazzjoni”. He said he had no doubts with regards the players’ determination in this coming game but the fans’ support would be a big plus.
Saliba said the association will be marketing the game in various media and will also take the players closer to the public. One activity will see the visit of national team players at St. Benedict College.
National team player Jamie Pace said that such incentives are good for football. He said that for a player entering the field of play and hearing the fans’ support is fantastic. A player would not want to disappoint himself but would also try to avoid disappointing the supporters.
