MALTA against Greece: the battle of the Mediterranean

Our national team will be back on the battlefield for a EURO 2012 qualifying match in just a few days. On Saturday 26th March, Malta will take on the Euro 2004 champions Greece, at 8:30pm, at the Ta’ Qali Stadium.

Malta played against the Greek team eight times so far, and while our national team lost all four games in Greece, on home soil our team achieved very positive results. The last time these two teams met, our boys lost by a mere one goal to nil, when the Greeks scored a goal thanks to a controversial penalty in the dying minutes of the match. It is finally payback time!

As South End Core we hope that the players will leave any differences with the top officials of the MFA aside and that whoever is chosen by the coach will give his all in what we consider one of the most difficult matches in our group.

Our national team, which played a friendly against the tough Swiss team earlier this year that ended with a goalless score, is currently last in the Euro 2012 Group F standings. So far, Malta has no points, even though the matches were all lost by an average margin of two goals. We cheered a goal scored away from our shores but this time we want to feel the South Side stand up and roar at home when the ball passes the Greeks’ fatal line!

So we urge you to come, make your voice heard for the whole ninety minutes, and support our fellow Maltese knights to overcome this delicate encounter. Come early and join in the fun with our Grand Master of Ceremonies Louis Agius.
