Stripes aim at returning to winning ways

Birkirkara will be hoping to bounce back on Sunday as they take on Tarxien Rainbows in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium.

The Stripes suffered a humiliating 1-5 defeat to Floriana in their last outing but a win over the Rainbows would put them once again in second place on level points with the Greens after the latter were held in a draw by Marsaxlokk on Saturday.

Tarxien lost four out of the last five matches, therefore losing ground in the race for second place. They are currently fifth on 18 points, three behind Birkirkara.

Andrei Agius is ruled out for Birkirkara as he serves a one-match ban. Lee Galea, on the other hand, will be back for Tarxien after missing the last game against Valletta.

Following two goalless draws in the first two rounds, Birkirkara beat Tarxien 3-1 in the first game of the Championship Pool.

In a game from the Relegation Pool, Sliema Wanderers take on Hibernians.

With the relegation issue settled, the two teams have no particular objective to play for and the two coaches could therefore field some of the younger players.

Hibs defender Jonathan Pearson is ruled out through suspension.

Following a goalless draw in the first round, Sliema defeated Hibs 4-0 in the second round. The Relegation Pool clash ended in a 1-0 win for the Paolites.
