For the third time this season, Juventus Soccer School Malta visited Turin to take part in an official tournament – the Juventus National Academy Cup.
This was the fifth edition of the tournament hosted by the Juventus National Academy, in which all Juventus Soccer Schools take part.
Children born in 1998 took part in the Esordienti category with eight hundred players taking part in a tournament spread over three days.
Day 1 consisted of Freestyle Fantasy, Soccer Speed, 5 vs 5 and a Quiz, with the JSS Malta obtaining a total of 580 points to place first among 38 teams, followed by JSS Toscana USD Pieve San Paolo Capannori and JSS Stars Grugliasco Piemonte.
JSS Malta was then placed in Group A – divided into two sections – featuring the top ten teams. The Maltese team obtained two draws and two defeats and therefore took part in the play-offs for the fifth to tenth place. JSS Malta placed eighth among the thirty eight teams.
Present for the Juventus National Academy Cup was former Juventus and national team player Gianluca Pessotto who is now Manager of the Juventus Soccer Schools, together with the head of the Juventus youth sector Giuseppe Rossi, Juventus Soccer Schools Head Coach Alessandro Ramello and Juventus Soccer Schools Director Andrea Vaccarano.
Fabio Quagliarella and Vincenzo Iaquinta made a surprise appearance during the Juventus National Academy Cup and took photos with the various teams.
The JSS Malta visit could not have a better finale as two players – ten-year old Ivan Veselji and twelve-year old Timothy Aquilina – were selected to form part of a team which played a friendly match before the final. Aquilina was voted Best Goalkeeper by the coaches of the participating teams while Veselji was voted Best Player of the tournament by Juventus National Academy coaches.
An official presentation for all players in the Juventus Soccer School Malta will be held on May 27th.
