Attard were the seventh and final team to win promotion from the BOV Third Division to Division 2 after defeating Pembroke Athleta 4-1 in a Promotion Decider on Saturday. A decider which brought against each other the teams ending fourth in Sections A and B respectively.
Carlo Leonardi gave Pembroke an early lead. Attard were awarded a penalty a few minutes later. Clive Lanzon’s effort from the penalty spot was partially saved by goalkeeper Matthew Calleja but off the rebound, the same player placed the ball at the back of the net. Bydasser Sammut made it 2-1 and Erjon Beu increased the lead before the end of the first half.
Attard continued to hold the initiative after the break and in added time, Kayne Said sealed the issue with a fourth goal.
Meanwhile in a decider to determine the section winner, Siggiewi came from behind to beat St. Venera Lightnings 2-1. Siggiewi will therefore face Gharghur in the BOV Third Division Championship Decider next week.
Rudi Carbonaro gave the Lightnings an early lead but Jason Camilleri levelled matters on the 90th to force extra-time. Matthew Borg notched the winner in the last minute of extra-time.
