UEFA confirms seedings for Champions League, Europa League draws

UEFA have confirmed the seedings ahead of next Monday’s draws for the first two qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League and the first two qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League. The draws will be made during ceremonies to be staged at UEFA Headquarters in Nyon, starting at 12.00 and 13.00 CET respectively.

Representing Malta in the draws will be BOV Premier League champions Valletta, U*BET FA Trophy winners Floriana and Premier League runners-up Birkirkara.

Valletta are one of the seeded teams, together with F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg, as they start their commitments in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. Their opponents will be one team between FC Santa Coloma of Andorra and SP Tre Fiori of San Marino.

Last year, Santa Coloma was drawn with Birkirkara with the Stripes emerging as winners with a 7-3 score.

Should they reach the second qualifying round, Valletta would be meeting one among these teams who are seeded:

First qualifying round matches will be played on 28/29 June and 5/6 July. Second qualifying round matches are scheduled for July 12/13 and July 19/20. The third qualifying round draw will be held on July 15.

Birkirkara and Floriana will be taking part in the UEFA Europa League with the Stripes starting in the first qualifying round and Floriana making it to the second qualifying round due to their status as cup winners.

The 80 teams involved in the second qualifying round, including Floriana, are divided into eight groups of ten, each containing five seeded and five unseeded teams. The draw follows the same procedure as the first qualifying round, with the groupings to be confirmed after the draw for the first qualifying round.
