Echo of Norway vs Malta: MFA obtains transcripts of evidence in Bochum trial

The Malta Football Association obtained the transcripts of the evidence given in the Bochum trial by Ante Sapina and Mario Cvrtak over match-fixing last May. Among the games which were mentioned was the EURO 2008 qualifier between Norway and Malta which was played in Oslo in June 2007. The transcripts were obtained through assistance by UEFA.

Speaking during a meeting of the Council on Thursday, MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo announced that the association has forwarded the information to the Police which is currently investigating the case.

Darmanin Demajo said the case was taking its due time and stressed that it is the interest of the association to know what happened.

The MFA President confirmed that names of Maltese players were mentioned in the evidence.

Meanwhile during the same meeting of the Council, it was announced that former Malta international player Ian Ciantar was handed a life-ban by the Board to Investigate Corrupt Practices.

The case took place before the BOV Premier League decider between Sliema Wanderers and Qormi in season 2009/10.
