Hibernians hope to move three points clear

Hibernians will be hoping to move three points clear on top the BOV Premier League table as they face Hamrun Spartans in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.

The Paolites are coming from a series of seven successive wins and are therefore keen to extend their positive run with a win over the Spartans who are currently second from bottom on seven points.

In their last outings, Hibs defeated Mqabba 4-2 while Hamrun lost 0-4 to Birkirkara.

Brazilian defender Diego Balbinot is still ruled out injured. For Hamrun, Swiss midfielder Carlo Polli is suspended while Steve Bonnici and Dene Shields are recovering from injuries.

Meanwhile in the first match, Balzan Youths hope to take advantage from Marsaxlokk’s current situation and register a second successive win.

The Youths defeated Tarxien 2-1 last week and another win on Sunday would put them in seventh place on eleven points.

Marsaxlokk lost 1-3 to Qormi last week and following the resignation of coach Winston Muscat, assistant coach Darren Abdilla and goalkeepers’ coach Mark Tabone, the club is yet to officially appoint a new coach.

Rennie Forace is ruled out for Balzan as he serves a one-match ban while Clive Brincat is suspended for Marsaxlokk.
