Sixteen Premier League players suspended

Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers were hit hard as the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner suspended no less than sixteen players following the BOV Premier League matches which were played over the weekend.

Hamrun duo Gaetan Spiteri and Lee James Agius were handed heavy four-match and three-match ban while Kevin Sammut and Rupert Mangion were banned for one game.

Sliema, on the other hand, had four players suspended for one game, namely Danial Mitev, Josef Mifsud, Steve Bezzina and Cleavon Frendo.

Also suspended for one game were Leighton Grech (Birkirkara), Joseph Borg (Floriana), Marcelo Dias and Edison Luis dos Santos (Hibs), Stuart Duff and Luke Sciberras (Qormi), Caio Garcia Suguino (Tarxien) and Ian Azzopardi (Valletta).

The four Hamrun players and Azzopardi are ruled out of Saturday’s clash between Valletta and Hamrun. Agius and Spiteri will also miss the games against Tarxien and Floriana with the striker also being ruled out of the game against Qormi.

The Sliema players will be missing the game against Mqabba. Dias and Tarabai are ruled out of the match against Marsaxlokk while Leighton Grech will be missing the game against Mosta.

Duff and Sciberras will be unavailable for the game against Balzan while Borg and Suguino are ruled out of Floriana vs Tarxien.

Darren Falzon (Naxxar), Jurgen Cassar (St. George’s) and Dylon Debono (Vittoriosa) were banned for one match in the Youth League.
