Nine Premier League players suspended

Andrew Decesare of Birkirkara and Marcelo Dias of Hibernians were both handed a two-match ban following an incident between the two during last Sunday’s BOV Premier League clash. Another seven Premier League players were banned for one match.

Rodrigo Pereira (Birkirkara), Christian Cassar (Floriana), Carlo Mamo (Marsaxlokk), Bryan Agius and Ian Zammit (Mosta), Carl Sammut (Tarxien) and Steve Borg (Valletta) are therefore ruled out of this weekend’s games.

Pereira and Decesare will be missing the game against Mqabba with the latter also being ruled out of the game against Sliema in January. Marcelo Dias will miss the games against Balzan and Valletta.

Christian Cassar is ruled out of Floriana vs Hamrun while Carlo Mamo will miss the game against Sliema. Sammut is unavailable for the game Tarxien vs Qormi while Agius, Zammit and Borg are ruled out of the game Mosta vs Valletta.

Meanwhile in Division 1, Jovan Vukanic (Melita) and Eric Chukwunyelu (St. George’s) were suspended for two matches while Mead Mifsud (Birzebbuga), Kurt Pace (Dingli), Karl Vella Petroni (Melita) and Matthew Borg (Zejtun) were banned for one match.

Kurt Zahra (Attard) and Gharghur’s Edmond Lapira and Dunstan Zarb were banned for one match in Division 2.

In Division 3, Nazzareno Abela (Marsaskala), Omar Smeir (Mtarfa), Clifford Obimwamme (Sirens) and Duane Carabott (Santa Lucia) were all suspended for two matches while Mark Cassar and Albert Caruana (Ghaxaq), Brian Zammit and Carl Cremona (Marsa), Ennio Desira (Marsaskala), Patrick Muscat (Qrendi), Gareth Magri (Sirens) and Clayton Goodrum (Santa Lucia) were suspended for one game. Ghaxaq kit-manager Luke Spiteri was banned for three matches.

In the Youth League, Shawn Bonello (Gzira), Scott Chircop (Hibs), Miguel Grech (Msida) were suspended for one game while Jurgen Cassar (St. George’s) was suspended for two matches.
