A selection of local Premier League players, another selection of foreign Premier League players and a selection of First Division players will be taking part in the triangular tournament as part of the Gowl għall-Istrina which will be held at the National Stadium on Monday, starting at 16:15.

Gowl għall-Istrina is a brainchild of Replay’s executive producer ?or? Micallef and was first held two years ago. All proceeds from this event will go towards the annual fund-raising fixture, l-Istrina.

What makes this annual fixture even more special is the fact that all twenty four Premier and First Division League clubs will raise money themselves.

All Premier League clubs will forfeit €500 from income through gate money to raise the coffers of Gowl għall-Istrina while First Division clubs will donate €250 each. Furthermore, squad players and coaches from all clubs will each donate a minimum sum of €10. Team captains will present their donations before the start of the triangular tournament.

Besides being a fund-raising activity, this year, the event is being organised jointly by the MFA, Net TV, One and the Youth FA and will mark the 30th anniversary since when football was first played at the National Stadium.

In fact, thirty football personalities who left their mark in some way or another over the past thirty years will be honoured by the Malta Football Association.

The programme includes entertainment by local singers, a feature about the National Stadium and the presentations to the thirty personalities before the arrival of the President of the Republic Dr George Abela at around 17:15. Following the singing of the National Anthem, Dr Abela will deliver a short speech before meeting the players and the personalities. The President will leave Ta’ Qali on a helicopter at around 17:55.

The first game will be between the Premier League local selection and the First Division selection. The Premier League foreigners’ selection takes on the losers of the first game in the second match and finally the winners of the first game.

Entrance fee is €2 for adults and €1 for children.
