Maltese officials attending Referees Assistance Programme Course in Spain

Three Maltese officials, namely Referees’ Fitness Coach Ronald Zammit and Referees’ Instructors Adrian D. Casha and Philip Agius, are attending two specialised courses organised by UEFA in Barcelona, Spain.

The Fitness Instructors Course is being held between the 21st and 24tj March

As an introduction to the Fitness Instructors Course being attended by Ronald Zammit, participants will have to deliver a 5-minute individual presentation. During the first training session of the course, a demonstration of favourite exercises will be delivered, after which there will be a feedback of same; as well as feedback from the Yo-Yo fitness test. A running technique analysis will follow. Group work will include a discussion on future trends in referee training and testing. A quiz on Referee fitness training is also on the programme. Other interesting topics will deal on functional nutrition and fluid intake and strength training, injury prevention and core stability. The course will conclude by the presentation of certificates.

The Technical Instructors Course will be held between the 24th and 27th March.

The first session ot this course will consist of a video test and video test analysis conducted by UEFA Referee Committee members Hugh Dallas and Vlado Sajn. Hugh Dallas will continue addressing participants on management issues, teamwork/offside and confrontation/dissent; while Vlado Sajn will handle issues such as serious foul play/reckless challenges, obvious goal-scoring opportunities, simulation and advantage. Hugh Dallas and Vlado Sajn will also conduct group work focusing on clips from national competitions.

An introduction to selecting and cutting clips from a dvd by Steve Bennett will be delivered in preparation for an anlysis of a match and presentation and discussion of the clips selected.
