BOV Division 2: Mellieha-Gudja abandoned

The BOV Second Division match between Mellieha and Gudja United – a clash between the teams lying in second and third place at the Centenary Stadium – was abandoned at half-time following an incident in which a Mellieha player attacked the referee.

Brazilian striker Tiago Loquete, who a few minutes earlier, was cautioned by referee Trustin Farrugia Cann, went to complain with the referee after the latter whistled for the end of the first half.

As Farrugia Cann was about to show Loquete a second yellow card, the Brazilian striker hit the referee who ended on the ground.

Farrugia Cann abandoned the game and a few minutes later, Tiago Loquete was accompanied by four police officers out of the dressing room and into a police car.

The score was still 0-0.

Meanwhile in other matches, Zebbug Rangers defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 3-0 while Zurrieq beat Attard 3-0. Gharghur and Senglea Athletic shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

At the Luxol Stadium, Santa Venera and San Gwann shared the spoils in a  1-1 draw while Msida St. Joseph defeated Kirkop United 3-1.
