Floriana, Birkirkara in direct clash for third place

Floriana take on Birkirkara in a direct clash for third place in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday.

Birkirkara are currently two points ahead and therefore would also be satisfied with a draw. They extended their unbeaten run to seven matches as they beat Balzan Youths 5-0 last week.

After defeating Sliema Wanderers 3-1 in their last outing, the Greens will be all out to claim the three points in order to move back in third place. They won just two of the five Championship Pool clashes.

Joseph Borg returns for Floriana after serving a one-match ban but Christian Caruana is still suspended.

Birkirkara defeated Floriana 3-0 in the first round and 3-1 in the third round while the Greens won the second round clash 1-0.

Meanwhile after falling nine points behind leaders Valletta, Hibernians cannot afford dropping any points from the game against Sliema Wanderers in their bid to stay close to the leaders.

The defeat to Valletta was the second defeat in the last three matches for Mark Miller’s side.

The Wanderers are yet to register a first win in the Championship Pool, losing three of the five matches. They lost 1-3 to Floriana last week and are currently fifth, nine points behind third-placed Birkirkara.

For Sliema, Josef Mifsud is suspended but Clifford Gatt Baldacchino returns after serving a one-match ban. Hibs welcome back former Sliema midfielder Jackson De Lima Siqueira after missing the last game.

Following two draws in the first phase – 3-3 and 1-1, the third round clash ended in a 2-1 win for Hibernians.
