Citizens all out to maintain comfortable lead

Leaders Valletta will be all out to claim the three points on Sunday as they take on Birkirkara in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium.

Valletta are coming from an unbeaten run of twenty-three league matches and registered four wins in the last four outings. Goalkeeper Andrew Hogg returns for Valletta after serving a one-match ban.

On the other hand, a 1-2 defeat to Floriana brought the Stripes’ positive run of seven matches. They had won five of the previous seven matches. They are keen to bounce back in order to maintain the challenge for third place which would mean a place in the UEFA Europa League.

Birkirkara and Valletta met four times – three in league matches (2-1 and 4-1 for Valletta and a 1-1 draw) and one in the Euro Cup which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile in another match, Tarxien Rainbows take on Qormi in a clash from the Relegation Pool.

Tarxien won three of the last four matches, defeating Marsaxlokk and Mqabba in their last two outings. Orosco Anonam returns for the Rainbows after missing the last game due to a suspension.

Qormi had an incredible pattern of results over the last ten matches with a win alternating with a defeat. Last week, they registered a comfortable 5-1 win over Marsaxlokk. Coach Stephen Azzopardi welcomes back Luke Sciberras after serving a one-match ban but Federico Mirarchi is ruled out injured.

Qormi won the first round clash 4-1 and the third round clash 1-0 but the second round clash ended in a 2-0 for Tarxien.
