Citizens set to seal the title

Leaders Valletta will be all out to claim the point they need to secure the 21st championship in the history of the club as they take on Sliema Wanderers in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium on Sunday.

Valletta won the last five matches to stay six points clear on top the BOV Premier League table, extending their positive run to twenty-four matches.

Sliema earned a point from a draw with Balzan in their last outing. They are yet to register a first win in the Championship Pool and have in fact gone seven matches without a win – collecting just three points. Henry Bonello and Mark Scerri should be back after missing the last game but Andrew Decesare is still recovering from an injury.

Valletta and Sliema met four times this season. The first two games ended in draws – 1-1 and 0-0. The third round clash ended in a 2-0 win for Valletta. They also beat Sliema 5-2 in the FA Trophy third round.

Meanwhile the first game is the Relegation Pool clash between Marsaxlokk and Mqabba

Mqabba rescued a point with a good comeback in their last game against Mosta, holding them in a 2-2 draw. A point which leaves them three points behind Mosta and six behind Tarxien. Therefore a win would put Clive Mizzi’s side on level points with Mosta with two games to go.

Marsaxlokk are coming from a series of six successive defeats and after being relegated to Division 1, have no particular objective to play for. Clive Brincat and Trevor Templeman are suspende.

Mqabba defeated Marsaxlokk three times this season – 2-0, 1-0 and 3-0.
