BOV Division 1: Vittoriosa turn defeat into victory — Melita held in 2-2 draw by Naxxar

Vittoriosa Stars came back from one goal down to beat Dingli Swallows 3-1 in a match from the BOV First Division.

Chris Azzopardi put Dingli ahead but goals by Marcelo Pereira, Gary Muir and Luke Vella Critien gave Vittoriosa the three points. Therefore Dingli are still joint-second from bottom together with St. Patrick.

In the second match, Melita failed to take the three points they needed to secure promotion, earning a point in a 2-2 draw with Naxxar Lions.

The Lions went two goals ahead thanks to Andrea Farrugia and Osy Lucky Agboegbina but the Amateurs made a good comeback, scoring two to level matters through Julian Galea and George Gribbon. A stoppage-time penalty could have even handed them the three points but Manuel Ramon Sierra Camacho missed this golden opportunity.

Rabat lead the way with 45 points, followed by Melita on 44, Pietà 38, Naxxar 33, Vittoriosa 31, Zejtun 30, St. Andrews 27, Birzebbuga and Lija 23, Dingli and St. Patrick 19 and St. George’s 16.

Next week, Melita take on leaders Rabat Ajax in a direct clash for the First Division championship. Melita need a point to secure promotion. However if Rabat beat Melita and Pietà win the games against Lija Athletic and Zejtun Corinthians, a promotion decider would be necessary between Melita and Pietà.
