Do-or-die clashes for Mosta, Mqabba

Four matches are in programme on Friday as the BOV Premier League approaches the end with the final game being played on Saturday. Mosta and Mqabba play their final Relegation Pool games. Two games which should decide the relegation issue.

Mosta lie three points ahead of Mqabba and therefore a draw would be enough for them to secure their Premier League status – therefore avoiding relegation for the first time in the history of the club. Should Qormi lose to Qormi and Mqabba beat Hamrun, a relegation decider would be necessary.

Mqabba take on Hamrun Spartans at the Hibernians Stadium.

The Reds will be all out to get the three points in their bid to avoid relegation but these may not be enough if Mosta earn a point at least from the game against Qormi.

Mqabba lost 0-1 to Qormi last week to drop three important points in the battle against relegation. They won just one game out of the last six matches.

To make matters worse, Clive Mizzi could not count on the suspended Kris Calleja, Pierre Grima and Ryan Sammut

Hamrun lost 0-6 to Qormi and 0-3 to Tarxien in their last two outings but they are sure of playing in the Premier League next season. Dene Shields is still ruled out injured but Ronni Hartvig will be back after serving a one-match ban.

Hamrun won the first round clash 3-2, Mqabba won 2-0 in the second round while the third round clash ended in a goalless draw.

Meanwhile Birkirkara face Balzan Youths in the first match at the Hibs Stadium.

Birkirkara bounced back from two defeats against Floriana and Valletta with two wins over Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers. Six points which put the Stripes in third place, two points ahead of Floriana. Another win over Balzan would enable them to secure third place.

Birkirkara welcome back Angus Buhagiar, Nikola Vukanac, Rodrigo Pereira, Shaun Bajada and Rowen Muscat as they were all suspended last week.

Balzan suffered two identical 0-3 defeats to Floriana and Hibernians in the last two outings and have now gone nine matches without a win. Jamie Pace is ruled out for Balzan as he serves a one-match ban. Jonathan Francica should be back after missing the last game but the presence of Clifton Ciantar, Dylan Grima and Pedro Calcado is in doubt.

Birkirkara defeated Balzan three times this season 2-1, 4-0 and 5-0.

At the National Stadium, Mosta take on Qormi.

Mosta start as favourites to get the point they need from this game to secure their Premier League status and condemn Mqabba to Division 1.

After collecting just two points from the previous three matches, Mosta returned to winning ways last week, defeating Marsaxlokk 5-0.

Qormi, on the other hand,  won the last four matches, scoring fourteen goals and suffering three. Last week, they registered a narrow win over an Mqabba side which was seeking the three points in their bid to avoid relegation.

Dyson Falzon will be back for Mosta after serving a one-match ban.

Qormi won the first round clash 4-1 but Mosta registered two wins in the other two matches – 1-0 and 2-0.

Floriana face Sliema Wanderers in a game from the Championship Pool.

The Greens lost two of the last three matches, earning the three points in a win over Balzan. They lost 0-1 to champions Valletta last week.

The Wanderers lost four of the last five matches and are coming from a 1-4 defeat to Birkirkara last week.

For Sliema, Nikola Bogdanovic is suspended while Andrew Decesare, Rumen Galabov, Emiliano Lattes and Jerry Ani are ruled out injured.

Sliema won the first round game 1-0, the second round clash ended in a goalless draw but the Greens won the third round clash 3-1.
