Positive season for Hamrun Nursery as U-17s win Section A

The Hamrun Nursery will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in the best possible manner as one of the best football nurseries on the island in terms of training facilities, coaching staff and organisation. The positive results obtained by all teams during this season goes a long way to prove this.

Playing in front of one of the biggest attendances ever for a Youth FA league match, the Hamrun Under 17s managed to beat St Patrick in their last match to lift the Section A title.

True to their motto “Never Surrender”, the young Spartans scored a goal through Rodney Refalo midway through the second half whilst playing with 10 men after having a defender sent off early in the first half. Captain Ryan Spiteri lifted the trophy soon after the match, which was played on home soil at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. The Under 17s will now prepare for the Knockout which will be played over the period of a week starting Sunday 20 May 2012.

Indeed, this has been the most successful year in the Nursery’s history as all Hamrun Spartans teams will be playing in the top divisions next season. The Under 19 team were promoted to Section A on Tuesday after winning a promotion decider against Marsaxlokk thanks to a solitary Daniel Zerafa goal. Just a few weeks ago, the women’s team also managed to obtain promotion to the top division. The Hamrun Spartans Futsal team also managed a remarkable feat as they won the third successive promotion to a higher division, having started from the lowest division. Next year, they will be playing in the Futsal’s top division. The Under 15s (boys) and the Under 16 (girls) also had a positive season finishing sixth and third respectively in the top division of their respective category.

Hamrun Spartans FC is therefore the only local team, at the moment, to have their First Squad, Under 19s, Under 17s, Under 15s, Futsal and Women’s team in the top-most division. This is only the cherry on the cake for the Hamrun Nursery which has confirmed the progress achieved in the past couple of years also through results on the pitch.
