Pietro Ghedin names squad for Luxembourg friendly

New Malta national coach Pietro Ghedin named the final eighteen-man squad ahead of next Saturday’s international friendly match against Luxembourg at the Stade Josy Barthel, kick-off at 17:00.

Sliema Wanderers goalkeeper Henry Bonello, Hibernians defenders Ryan Camilleri and Edward Herrera, Birkirkara midfielder Shaun Bajada, Sliema’s John Mintoff and Melita’s Julian Galea failed to make it the final squad.

Bonello had started in goal in the friendly match against Liechtenstein in February while Bajada was included as a substitute. Luke Dimech, who was included as a substitute was not even in the provisional squad for this game. Bjorn Kristensen, on the other hand, will be playing for the Under-21 side.

This game will mark the return of Cleavon Frendo with the national team after a long absence after being dropped from the squad in January 2010.

The players selected by Ghedin are:
goalkeepers Andrew Hogg (Valletta), Justin Haber (unattached);
defenders Andrei Agius (Latina – ITA), Steve Borg (Valletta), Jonathan Caruana (Valletta), Alex Muscat (Sliema), Joseph Zerafa (Birkirkara);
midfielders Edmond Agius (Valletta), Roderick Briffa (Valletta), Clayton Failla (Hibs), Dyson Falzon (Valletta), Paul Fenech (Birkirkara), Gareth Sciberras (Birkirkara);
forwards Daniel Bogdanovic (unattached), Andrew Cohen (Hibs), Cleavon Frendo (Valletta), Michael Mifsud (Valletta), Andre Schembri (Panionios – GRE).
