Malta Academy wins last two games in tournament

The Malta Academy placed thirteenth in the 22nd edition of the Torneo Internazionale Città di Cairo after defeating Hungary 2-0 on Sunday. Aidan Jake Friggieri and Russell Fenech scored the two goals for Malta.

Earlier in the day, Malta beat Sampdoria 2-0 with two goals by Matthew Gullaimier.

In the final presentation awards, Malta’s Myles Beerman was presented with a trophy in the category of The Most Technically Gifted Players’.

After winning the group with maximum points, on Saturday, Malta suffered two narrow 1-2 defeats to AC Milan and Novara. Russell Fenech scored Malta’s goal against Milan while Matthew Gullaimier scored the goal against Novara.

Throughout the tournament, Malta played seven games, winning five, scoring 21 goals and conceding only four.

Inter won the tournament after defeating Milan 3-2 on penalties. Red Star Belgrade placed third after beating Slavia Prague 2-0 while Manchester City defeated Juventus 1-0 to finish fifth.
