First week of matches from Beach Soccer League

The Heineken Beach Soccer League kicked-off last Monday at the newly-built beach soccer stadium in Pembroke.

In the Men’s League, in Group A, Benjamin BS collected maximum points from the two matches played, defeating Tal-Werqa 7-2 and Hal-Fornaro 4-3. Hal-Fornaro also registered two wins, defeating Tal-Werqa 5-0 and Export Lions 4-3 on penalties following a 3-3 draw) but losing to Benjamin. Export Lions beat Red Marleys 3-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw and Tal-Werqa 6-3 but lost to Hal-Fornaro. Tal-Werqa registered their only win, defeating Red Marleys 7-0.

In Group B, Birzebbuga won three games – defeating Hamrun 6-2, Mewew 12-1 and Gunners United 7-1, losing the only game on penalties 6-7 to Beach Boys following a 6-6 draw. Beach Boys also won three and lost one – defeating Mewew 7-2, Birzebbuga 7-6 pen (6-6) and Hamrun 8-2, losing to Spina 4-5 on penalties following a 4-4 draw. In other matches, Hamrun beat Spina 6-4, Spina defeated Gunners United 4-3 while Gunners United beat Mewew 3-0.

In two matches from the Ladies’ League, Pembroke defeated Athleta 4-2 while Rio Girls beat Vittoriosa 9-2.

The two leagues resumed on Monday with matches being played daily until Sunday. The semi-finals will be played on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
