Floriana lose 0-4 to Elfsborg

Elfsborg registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Floriana in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round at the Hibernians stadium on Tuesday to reach the next stage with an aggregate score of 12-0.

With Owen Bugeja, Christian Cassar and Joseph Borg ruled out injured and Tyrone Farrugia suspended, player coach Ivan Woods only had fourteen players at his disposal, handing Sacha Borg and Ryan Darmanin a place in the starting line-up.

The visitors held the initiative right from the start but on the 9th minute, the Greens could have taken the lead when Christian Caruana took an erratic clearance by the goalkeeper but hit wide.

Elfsborg managed to take the lead on 19 minutes when off a cross by Abdulrahman from the left, Daniel Mobaeck hit home past goalkeeper Jurgen Borg.

Floriana replied with a solo effort by Ivan Woods, concluded with an angled shot from the left, ending over the bar on 26 minutes. Five minutes later, Jurgen Borg managed to turn into a corner a goal-bound header by Abdulrahman.

Elfsborg then missed an excellent opportunity with Simon Hedlund hitting wide from close range on 38 minutes following a good move between Frick and Jawo.

Five minutes in the second half, the Swedish doubled the score through Oscar Hiljemark whose close range effort gave Jurgen Borg no chance.

Per Frick scored the third goal for Elfsborg on the 67th minutes anticipating Jurgen Borg from close range.

Ten minutes later, Viktor Claesson scored the fourth goal when he slotted the ball past the Floriana goalkeeper following a cross from the right.
