Birkirkara win first edition of AME Cup

Birkirkara won the first edition of the AME Cup after defeating Sliema Wanderers in the final at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Omar Fonstad El ghaouti put the Wanderers ahead on 11minutes but eight minutes later, Shola Shodiya equalised. Seven minutes from time, Birkirkara were awarded a penalty which was converted by Joselito dos Reis.

In the same incident, Sliema goalkeeper Henry Bonello was sent off and as replaced by Glen Zammit. Earlier Andre Cassar was sent off for Birkirkara.

Meanwhile Mosta ended their tournament commitments in third place after defeating Balzan 4-3.

Firas Aboulezz put the Blues ahead on 18 minutes. Ten minutes later, Elton da Silva missed a penalty for Balzan but the same player equalised four minutes later. Four minutes from the end of the first half, Obinna Obiefule put Mosta 2-1 ahead.

Goals by Martin Deanov on 51 minutes and Dylan Grima on 67 minutes turned the acore 3-2 in favour of Balzan but another two goals by Obinna Obiefule on 69 an 74 minutes handed Mosta victory.

Therefore the final standings of the first edition of the AME CUP 2012 are as follows:

4th : BALZAN F.C.
5th : RABAT AJAX
6th : TARXIEN RAINBOWS
7th : HAMRUN SPARTANS

Joselito dos Reis won the Top Scorer award with eight goals while Rabat Ajax won the Fair Play Award
