Financial boost for clubs whose players turn up for the national team

Eight local clubs whose players played for the national team received a financial boost as it was announced that they would receive a total of just under €600,000 in all for having their players serving in the national team.

In a Memorandum of Understanding signed by UEFA and the European Club Association, UEFA had agreed to distribute every four years an amount from the UEFA European Football Championship benefits to national associations for them to pass on to their clubs who have contributed to the successful staging of a UEFA EURO or national team football in general.

For the UEFA EURO 2012 the Distribution Amount was EUR 100 million while for the UEFA EURO 2016 the Distribution Amount will be EUR 150 million.

MFA president Norman Darmanin Demajo announced that clubs received around €4,200 for each national team appearance of each of their players in the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaign.

Valletta received €230,000; Birkirkara €117,000; Hibernians €88,000; Marsaxlokk €67,000; Floriana €33,000; Hamrun €33,000; Sliema €16,700; Qormi €8,300.
