Another successful summer programme at Footy4U Malta has come to an end, with no less than five Maltese boys being invited for trials.

Following its success last summer, Premier Skills and West Bromwich Albion Football Club coaching staff arrived in Malta on July 13th to carry out the Professional Opportunities Course for players and goalkeepers, in collaboration with Footy4U Malta, for the second time.

The intensive 4-day training camp saw no less than 116 footballers in attendance. The players also enjoyed an evening of football in their respective age categories, to showcase their talents in front of the foreign coaches before the course commenced.

The coaches were in Malta over two weekends. In this period, Premier Skills Director Roger Wilkinson delivered 2 Coach Education courses; the Level 1 and Level 2 Premier Skills certificates, to overlooking local coaches. This was the second time in which Roger Wilkinson delivered Coach Education courses in Malta, and he was pleased with the response and enthusiasm of the coaches present.

All the participants were encouraged to remain in touch with the Premier Skills and W.B.A. coaches, and whenever they go to England, they will be granted permission to visit the West Bromwich Albion Academy or any other Football Academy nearby. This is a fantastic opportunity for local coaches to discover how a professional Academy operates.

Following 12 hours of professional training, the course came to a close and every player received a certificate of attendance by Premier Skills.

Such was the success of the Camp that a few Maltese boys have been offered trial opportunities overseas. Ben Caruana (Melita), Jan Busuttil (Pieta’ Hotspurs), Marcus Grima (Luxol St. Andrews) and Zack Camilleri (Luxol St. Andrews) have all been invited to train at West Bromwich Albion Football Academy. Sasha Clements (Luxol St. Andrews) has been invited at Birmingham City Football Academy, while Matthew Guillaumier (Luxol St. Andrews) will be once again returning to the West Bromwich Albion Football Academy after impressing in his 11-day stay in August, joining the squad on a pre-season tournament in Romania.

The boys will be led by Footy4U Malta Head Coach Andrea Vella, together with Staff Coach Danilo Troia and GK Head Coach Samuel Bartolo. The three coaches will be visiting the W.B.A. and Birmingham City Academies, while also attending meetings and courses by Premier Skills alongside other coaches from the United Kingdom.

The Footy4U Group will leave Malta on 22 OCT 2012 and return on 29 OCT 2012.
