BOV Women's First Division: Mosta beat rivals Birkirkara

Super Cup winners Mosta defeated champions Birkirkara 3-1 in a match from the BOV Women’s First Division at the Charles Abela Stadium on Tuesday. Mosta therefore join Hibernians and Mgarr United with maximum points from two matches.

With this win the Blues also managed to bring to an end to the Stripes’ unbeaten record of twenty-six matches.

Birkirkara managed to take the lead through Kelly Agius Pace early in the game but Rachel Nolan levelled matters on the 20th. Nine minutes from time, Maltese-Canadian Nicole Buttigieg put Mosta ahead and Jade Flask sealed the issue with a third goal on the 87th.

In the BOV Women’s Second Division, Raiders (Luxol) registered a 5-2 win over St. Venera Yellow Blues.

Raiders took an early lead through Rodienne Zerafa and although Orianne Cassar equalised on the 15th, goals by Rodienne Zerafa and a brace by Andy Zammit put them 4-1 ahead. Cassar scored again for St. Venera but Nora Agliano scored the fifth goal for Raiders.

On the other hand, Fgura United and Vittoriosa Stars shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a clash between two teams who are taking part for the first time this season.

Goals by Leona Gafa and Angelica Costigan put Vittoriosa ahead but in the second half, Fgura made a good comeback and Alyssa Cachia and Eliana Gialanza scored the goals which handed them a point.
