Three players provisionally suspended after match fixing claims

The Malta Football Association Executive Committee suspended three players provisionally following investigations by the MFA Prosecutor over two match-fixing changes.

The players are Gaetan Spiteri – who is currently on loan with Qormi from Hamrun Spartans – and Floriana players Jermain Brincat and Chris Brincat. Chris Brincat is a Floriana futsal player and a member of the national futsal team.

The two games which are being investigated are the BOV Premier League 2011/12 match Sliema Wanderers vs Hamrun Spartans played on February 11th which ended in a 1-1 draw and the BOV First Division 2012/13 match between Naxxar Lions and Gzira United which was played on September 28 which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Former Sliema player Julian Briffa was earlier suspended provisionally over the same Sliema vs Hamrun game.

The police is also investigating these two matches and a number of persons are expected to be arraigned in court.
