Nine Premier League players suspended

Edward Herrera of Birkirkara was handed a two-match ban while another eight players were suspended for one match by the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner following the weekend’s marches from the BOV Premier League.

Bjorn Bondin (Balzan), Gareth Sciberras (Birkirkara), Valdo Goncalves Alhinho and Kane Farrugia (Floriana), Lyubomir Vitanov (Hamrun) Marcelo Dias (Hibernians), Joseph Chetcuti (Qormi) and Heiner Backhaus (Rabat) were all banned for one match.

Herrera is ruled out of the games against Mosta and Melita. Sciberras will also miss the Mosta game. Floriana will be without Alhinho and Farrugia for the match against Melita while Bondin and Backhaus are ruled out of Balzan vs Rabat.

Dias and Vitanov will be unavailable for Hibs and Hamrun respectively in the clash between the two teams while Chetcuti will miss Qormi’s next game against Tarxien.

Meanwhile in Division 1, Samir Arab (Vittoriosa) and Matthew Borg (Zejtun) were both suspended for two matches while Brian Said (St. Andrews) and Andre Farrugia (Zejtun) were banned for one match. Lija coach Brian Spiteri was suspended for one match while Vittoriosa coach Oliver Spiteri was banned for two.

In Division 2, Fgura United coach Edgar Degabriele and Kirkop United coach Jason Bartolo were both banned for two matches. Stacey Vella (Msida), Osy Lucky Agboegbinna (St. George’s) and Matthew Cocks (Zurrieq) were suspended for two matches while William Borg (Mellieha), Paul Fenech (Mgarr), Donald Gatt and Trevor Templeman (Msida) and Joseph Mercieca (Siggiewi) were all handed a one-match ban.

Jonathan Bugeja (Santa Lucia) and Mark Farrugia (Qrendi) were suspended for three matches and two matches respectively in Division 3 while Jean Claude Cachia (Attard) and Adrian Psaila (Luqa) were suspended for one match.
