Wanderers aim at returning to winning ways

After suffering two defeats in their last two league outings and being eliminated from the U*BET FA Trophy, Sliema Wanderers have no easy task as they aim to return to winning ways in the game against Mosta at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Monday.

The Wanderers are currently sixth following defeats to Floriana and Tarxien Rainbows and a win over Mosta could put them back on track in their bid to secure a place in the Championship Pool.

Mosta lost to Hibernians in the U*BET FA Trophy but the win over Valletta in their last BOV Premier League game put them in fifth place and another win on Monday would enable them to move fourth.

The biggest concern for coach Steve D’Amato is the absence of the suspended Luke Dimech and Bryan Agius while Justin Haber and Steve Bezzina are recovering from injuries. Luca Martinelli is in doubt for Sliema but Henry Bonello, Andrew Decesare and Mark Scerri will be back after missing the last league game.

In the first round, Mosta beat Sliema 2-0.

Meanwhile in the first match, Floriana take on Balzan.

Two 2-0 wins over Sliema and Hamrun put the Greens back on track although they are still ninth on sixteen points, three behind seventh placed Balzan.

Ivan Zammit’s side extended their positive run to eight matches without defeat with a 2-2 draw with Birkirkara in their last league game. A win is a must as they aim to secure a top-six finish.

Stefan Giglio returns for Balzan after missing the game against Hamrun. Floriana welcome back Tyrone Farrugia.

In the first round, Floriana defeated Balzan 3-1.
